Organic farming is beneficial to communities in multiple ways. It helps to reduce the environmental impact of humans, feeds the local economy, and at the same time meets the needs of the community's citizens.
Today we are collecting and analyzing data to understand more about our food composition. We plan to see how much food we consume is local, organic, or both. Our information came from Molly Walsh, the sustainability director for the food department at Emory.
Oxford Organics monitors the consumption of local and organic food in an attempt to monitor and analyze food consumption. Emory University and strives to become as sustainable as possible. Several years ago Emory introduced its sustainability initiatives. Since its inception, Emory has made considerable changes across the board. Dorms are being built and remodeled according to LEED standards. Buses are being powered by alternative fuels. The push for organic food has been implemented across the board at food stations throughout Emory. The university is increasing their use of organic and local foods and making significant strides towards its goal of becoming a sustainable university.
